Parishioners at St Wilfrid’s RC Church in Ripon want to know how they can help the community in the city and the surrounding countryside.

The parish has acquired a lease on the former nursery school building in the church grounds now owned by the charity the Knoll Trust.

A steering group chaired by parishioner Bernadette Barnes has been formed to guide the refurbishment of the building as a community facility and to bring it into full use.

But before the steering group finalises its plans it wants to hear from any established or potential group who might be interested in using the building or in getting involved in the project in any other way.

Monsignor Philip Holroyd said: “This project is an opportunity to ensure that an interesting Victorian building is made available to serve t
he needs of the local community.

“We want to offer accommodation that complements that which already exists in the city and to do what we can to fill gaps in existing provision.

“Members of the Steering Group will be following up leads that we already have but we shall be pleased to hear
of any other potential interest.”

There are two halls available in the building, as well as a small meeting room.

Refurbishment plans will include provision of an improved and enlarged kitchen together with modern toilet facilities.

The final plans will take account of the needs of potential users who have registered an interest. Limited off-street car parking is available, shared with the church.

Anyone in Ripon, Boroughbridge, Masham and the surrounding area who would like to know more or to register an interest is invited to contact the parish via email at
stwilfridsripon@gmail.com or by telephoning 01765 279263.

Arrangements can be made for potential users to view the building.
