Two Richmondshire based “Mrs Mops” have clocked up a massive 70 years of cleaning between them.

Relief housing warden and cleaner Merle Haines has been keeping clean Noel’s Court at Catterick Village for the last 40 years while Vivienne Lewis has completed 30 years at Frenchgate House.

The two district council employees were among 26 staff to earn long service awards from the authority.

Managing director Tony Clark, senior democratic services officer Sandra Hullah, allocations manager Yvonne Coates and waste operative Peter Durkin made up a century between them – each putting in 25 years service.

Another two members of staff had reached 35 years each, one had got to 30 years, another four 15 years each and 16 staff ten years each – giving a grand total of 490 years service to Richmondshire District Council

Chairman of the council, Coun Clive World presented them all with certificates and vouchers at a special ceremony.
