The gardens and tea room at Kiplin Hall, near Richmond, open for the 2013 season on Sunday 3 February 3.
The first flowers to welcome visitors are the delicate snowdrops and yellow winter aconites, which flower in abundance in the woodland, gardens and grounds.
Early woodland primroses are also starting to show and other spring bulbs are on the way.
The new White Garden, planted last year within the walls of topiary hedging, and other areas of the gardens, planted as part of the restoration work, are starting to mature.
Espalier fruit trees, soft fruits and several varieties of rhubarb are maturing in the Walled Garden, which supplies seasonal vegetables to the Tea Room and for visitors to buy. Snowdrops in the green and aconites are also on sale.
This year work will start on a new Gardening Museum, which will be developed behind the greenhouses along the walk to the Peninsula Wood. Head Gardener, Chris Baker, is appealing for old gardening implements to include in the displays.
“If anyone has any horticultural equipment from the 17th, 18th, 19th or 20th centuries, then please get in touch if you would like to donate it to this new project.”
Chris added, “I know it is very unlikely that anyone will have equipment from the early 1600s, which is when Kiplin Hall was built, but if anything from that period turns up it would be incredibly exciting! Please have a look in the back of your sheds!”
Follow the Snowdrop Trail through the gardens, enjoying the wonderful lakeside setting of the Hall, and the delightful woodland walks.
Return refreshed to the award winning Tea Room for tasty, homemade food. And if you have unearthed any old gardening implements, please bring them along with you.
