Helping hand for school

BATHROOM facilities at the Barnardo’s school in Ripon are undergoing a revamp worth £5,000 thanks to the generosity of firms in the region.

BAM Contruction’s North East team, based in Leeds, along with sub-contractors from across the region are updating the bathroom quarters at Spring Hill School on Palace Road over its half-term break.

Anthony Heaton, BAM environmental and community co-ordinator, said: ‘The bathrooms need completely refurbishing so I’ve managed to get Airdale to arrange the plumbing, BAM will manage the project and provide some manual labour, WF Fearn is going to do the school’s tiling and Northern Floorcraft will supply and fit the flooring.

“In total, we’ll be providing facilities that would otherwise cost something like £5,000. It’s a very generous act by our sub-contractors.”

Spring Hill School principal Linda Nelson said: “‘We are thrilled with this incredibly kind offer of support for our pupils. The essential works will help to maintain our OFSTED ‘outstanding’ rating and provide a very comfortable environment for our students.”
