A new initiative to welcome visitors to Ripon is proving successful, especially for the ambassador volunteers bringing the town to life.

Discover Ripon Ambassadors are on hand in and around Ripon city centre every Thursday improving the city experience by providing visitors with directions, information about events and attractions and even snippets of notable city trivia.

Regular ambassadors Tony Hirst and Christina Dummer – who also volunteers with Ripon Museum Trust – are even dressing for the occasion with period costumes from the Workhouse Museum.

The initiative was introduced as part of the City Development Programme and is driven by Discover Ripon, the group established to co-ordinate and lead marketing and promotion of the city.

Ripon Museum Trust has recently joined them in a resource sharing partnership.

Christina said: “It has been an opportunity to meet lots of different people. I have learned so much about history and it has been a great privilege to be able to pass on this knowledge while having fun in the process.”

The Ripon Museum Trust also relies on volunteers for all of their activities, and are particularly interested in hearing from potential “History Makers” who would like to train to lead guided tours around the museums.

Both Discover Ripon and Ripon Museums Trust will welcome further volunteers.
