A FIREFIGHTER has used a milestone birthday celebration to raise hundreds of pounds for children’s community nurses in Northallerton.
Deciding he had no need for gifts for his 50th birthday, Richard Henry, from Romanby, asked all guests at his party to consider making a donation to the nurses based at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton.
He said: “The nurses supported my family and I for nearly 10 years by looking after the needs of our daughter Rosie, who sadly passed away in August 2010, aged 13.
“I felt I wanted to raise awareness of the amazing work they do and the service they provide.”
The grand total raised as a result of the generosity of family, friends and colleagues was £615 which was presented to sister Clare Welford at the Friarage Hospital by Richard, his wife Diane and Rosie’s younger brother, Daniel.
