Eleven Bedale teenagers have added a professional lifeguard qualification to their water skills.
The 16 to 19 year olds completed a week long National Pool Lifeguard course at the town’s leisure centre, covering swimming pool operation, emergency response, first aid and CPR.
The course was run by newly qualified trainer Helen Hepburn, from Thirsk.
“Training 11 new lifeguards from scratch was always going to be a daunting prospect,” said Helen. “But to achieve a 100 per cent pass rate on my first course is a great achievement.”
Several of the newly qualified lifeguards will soon be starting work at the Bedale centre, with others taking their skills to some of the district council’s other centres in the district.
