A61 crash near Ripon leaves OAP in hospital

An elderly man has been seriously injured and two others taken to hospital following a two-vehicle road crash on the A61 near Ripon.

The collision between a white Renault Clio heading towards Harrogate and a silver Toyota Yaris being driven in the opposite direction happened between the Brearton turn-off and South Stainley on Saturday, November 17, at about 6pm.

The 64-year-old woman driver of the Toyota, from Pool-in-Wharfedale, was taken to Harrogate District Hospital with slight injuries but her 78-year-old husband – who was a passenger – suffered serious injuries and was admitted to the hospital where his condition is currently described as “comfortable”.

The 28-year-old driver of the Renault, from Harrogate, had to be cut from his car by firefighters and was taken to hospital by ambulance with slight injuries.

Police would like to speak to witnesses of the collision or anyone who recalls seeing either vehicle in the moments leading up to the car crash.
