Successful day for junior fly-fishermen

The Swale, Ure and Nidd Branch of the Salmon and Trout Association held their annual junior training days at Thornton Steward Reservoir on Saturday, April 28 by kind invitation of the Felling Fly Fishers.

Despite the inclement weather 17 youngsters, both girls and boys, turned up and were given expert tuition in the art of fly-fishing by Jeff Metcalfe, ably assisted by 10 members of the association.

In total 15 trout were caught and prizes were awarded for the largest trout – 2lb 8oz caught by Tom Hutchinson – and for the participant who showed the most improvement during the day – won by Jake Chappell.

The group hopes to hold a similar event in 2013.
