Preparing for St Wilfrid’s Procession

Preparations are gearing up for this year’s St Wilfrid’s Procession – the fiftieth in its current format.

Organisers are hoping to mark the parade’s golden jubilee by encouraging more groups to join in the celebrations.

Chairman of the organising committee Andrew Williams said he wants groups who have entered a float in the past to return to the procession to make this year’s event better than ever.

Fundraising has also begun for the day, which costs around £15,000 to stage, he added.

So far the organising committee has raised £5,000, leaving another £10,000 to be found. Two major events are planned to help find the cash.

The St Wilfrid’s Ball is set to take place at the Ripon Spa Hotel on Saturday, March 3.

Tickets for the event are still available at a cost of £36 per person. The price includes three course meal and entertainment throughout the evening, and tickets are on sale at the Wakeman’s Cafe or from Andrew Williams on 07793 552710.

Saturday, February 10 will see Ripon Bowling Club host a Valentine’s Disco at 7.30pm, in aid of the St Wilfrid’s Procession.

Tickets cost £4 and are available from the Bowling Club, Lead Lane Newsagent and the Wakeman’s Cafe, and can be bought on the door subject to availability.
