Thorp Perrow Arboretum – located between Masham and Bedale – has won a Gold Rose Award in this year’s Yorkshire in Bloom competition and was the winner of its category – country houses, estates and parks and gardens.

The judges came to visit Thorp Perrow in July and were delighted by the “incredible range of guide books, trails and information for schools and visitors alike”. Arboretum owner Sir John Ropner said: “I am so proud to win this award. My father Sir Leonard Ropner, who originally designed and planted the Arboretum in the 1930s, would have been utterly thrilled that his collection of trees from around the world have had such recognition.”
