SILTON triumphed by six wickets in the rearranged Hodgson Cup final against Leake at East Harlsey's ground.
When Silton’s skipper Rob Cowton won the toss it was no surprise when he asked Leake to bat first, as the pitch was still very soft.
It was also no surprise when opening bowlers Kevin and Joe Clarkson bowled an excellent line and length to restric
t Leake to only 26 from the first ten overs.
Clarkson senior picked up two further wickets to finish with excellent figures of 3 for 12 and although Joe had not taken a wicket, his contribution of five overs at a cost of only seven runs was immense.
Richard Chandler (17) was Leake’s top scorer in the end as they rallied a little to close on 66-8 with Paul Nicholson (4-12) keeping them in check.
Silton openers Chris Cowton and David Thompson started steadily enough and had to contend with a hostile spell from Chandler, who eventually claimed Thompson (24) in the ninth over.
In contrast to the fine display by Silton’s fielders earlier in the night, Leake dropped a couple of chances which might have made all the difference had they stuck.
Silton were comfortable at 47-1 but James Easton (2-9) took out both Clarksons. However, it proved in vain as Silton reached their target.
Meanwhile Silton moved one point clear at the top of the Sam Turner and Sons Northallerton and District Evening League following victory against Leake, Cowton’s 77 taking Silton (139-2) past Leake’s 134-4.
