Council leader to step down after seven years at helm

THE leader of Hambleton District Council, Coun Arthur Barker, has announced he will be stepping down in May after seven years at the helm.
He says he wants to commit more time to regional sustainability and flood defence issues following his appointmnent to two key roles as chairman of both the new Yorkshire and Humber Independent Sustainability Board and the Yorkshire Regional Flood Defence Committee.
